I am working on a set of Word 97 documents at work and have
developed a set of special characters in the headers and
footers. The characters have the appearance of a beam_i or
beam_r cursor and maintain a ratio of approximately 1.5
times the height of the lines character font size. Once the
characters appear in the document they cannot be selected
or deleted individually. The only way I have found to
remove the characters is to delete the header and/or footer
and recreate it. My main problem is that some of the
documents are not under my direct control and I do not have
the authorization to modify the documents. I was wonder if
there is some way to remove the characters without changing
the existing code.
The following information may help to troubleshot the problem:
a) the documents were created in Word 97 SR-2, version 8.0b
date 9/16/1998 6:12:40 PM,
b) the documents were then imported into Rational
RequisitePro - 7.01.0036.1. This is a Configuration
Management System,
c) after definition of requirements in RequisitePro the
document is taken offline,
d) open the document in Word 97 and the characters will
appear. This did not happen on the first open but after I
observed it in the first document all subsequently opened
documents contained the characters.
Further information, I opened the documents on my system at
home using Word 2000 (9.0.2720) and the characters were
still in the documents. My system at home does not have
RequisitePro installed.
Thanks in advance for any help,
