Special Characters stay TTF when changing to Type1 font

Hello!

I re-installed Word 2007, I deleted normal.dot, I started Word 2007 in Safe
Mode - the following problem persists:

When changing a part of my document from TrueType font to Type 1
(Postscript) font the special characters stay in the TTF font and aren't
changed to Type 1.

Only if I select very small parts (single sentences) of my document the
special characters are also changed.

This guy reported of the special characters of the Spanish language not to
be changed to Type1. This is exactly my problem. In my case the German
Umlauts stay in TrueType font. Unfortunately he never got an answer and all
proposals for solving this problem I read of didn't work.

It is impossible to select the complete text of a document and choose the
Type1 font from the font dropdown menu. It only works step by step. It is
hard work to change a complete document this way.

Word 2007 has the latest updates. Thanks for help.

I've never run into this one (I sometimes wish I could lay hands on Type
1 fonts ), but there are at least two workarounds I could think of,
namely using

- find/replace to replace one font with another, and if that still
doesn't work, then

- VBA to loop through the document word for word or character for
character and do the replacement there. The latter approach might take
some time, but it's bound to be quicker than doing it manually (at least
it's more "fun" ...).

I'm not a developer, but your best place to search and ask is in one of
the .word.vba groups (there is even a German one:
microsoft.public.de.word.vba).

To install, unzip the AMS download to a folder, use the Font Applet in the Windows control panel and point to the 'TFM' folder. The

Hi Markus,

If you use Insert=>Symbol=>More Symbools...
in Word 2007 and select the Type 1 font you're working with does it include the specific characters you're trying to replace?

Also, do you have any 'complex script' (right to left) languages installed? If so check in the Font dialog when selecting a
'special character' in the text to see if the complex script font choice is set to '+Body CS' or to the same Font as for Latin Text.
If +Body CS, then you may also want to create a set of styles that apply only one font choice.

Just to be on the safe side: when I point this "font applet" in WinXP
(gee, that dialog really looks Win 3.1 ) to the two archives
(cmpsfont and amspsfnt), the only place it finds fonts (around 90 and
40, respectively) is in the fonts\pfmfiles subdirectories.
