Special characters

Hello:

I'm trying to insert certain special characters into my Word X
document. My computer (a Pbook G4, running OSX 10.2.6) indicates that
the characters I want are available under the "Character Palette"
(most are in unicode). But when I click to insert the character into
Word, it won't go.

In contrast, when I try to insert the character into Text Edit, it
works fine.

Is there a way to get all the special characters into a Word document?
I'm looking particularly for a set of phonetic symbols.

I'm trying to insert certain special characters into my Word X
document.

Word X for Macintosh can use only the traditional MacRoman character
set. You would need to choose another program, for example see
http://www.unics.uni-hannover.de/nhtcapri/ "Programs for non-Roman
scripts".
