Specific Project is always "Check In Pending"

I have read several posts about the "Check In Pending" issue; however, I did
not read anything about specific projects always being stuck in the check in
pending mode. I have one project schedule that is always listed as “check in
pending†regardless of whether it is still checked out or not. Even when it
is not checked out from the server it must still be removed from the local
cache to be able to open it in edit mode. In addition, the only place it is
listed as “Check In Pending†is in my local cache. I have other schedules
that are never listed as check in pending even though I often open and close
these schedules around the same time using the same process to save and
close. Has anyone identified what causes a specific schedule to always remain
as check in pending?

Darrel,

There is a know issue with the project Cache which could cause
problems like these. Have you tried clearing your project cache and
have you installed the infrastruckture update yet ?

Darrell,

You could also try manually deleting the files stored on the computer,
for the project local cache. I'd back them up first, in case you have
information not yet saved to project server, in the cache.

Well, after receiving some really weird pop ups about one of these projects
that are always stuck in the “Check In Pending†mode at the local cache… I
opened it in read only mode and when I closed it I was informed that the
“Check In†had failed because it was not checked out to me… go figure.
However, immediately after receiving this “Job Failed†dialog with the error
ID 10102(0x2776) saying I could not check in the project because it was not
checked out to me I tried to open the plan again and it still shows to be
“Check In Pending†in the local cache.

I decided to investigate and using Windows Explorer went to the cache
location folder and found the .mpc files for each project in the local cache.
I noted that when a project was removed from the local cache the .MPC file
was deleted as well. However, even after the .mpc file for the problem
project was gone as soon as the project list was reloaded, the project opened
and closed again it would again appeared as “Check In Pendingâ€. Therefore, I
deleted the cache file itself and no more “Check In Pending†for any projects
much less the one that always appeared as check in pending.

It would appear that if you have a specific project that is always listed as
“Check In Pending†in the local cache, even when it is not checked out from
the project server, the fix is to navigate to the cache file location and
delete the cache file.
