Speech Playback function in Office

I was informed today that MS word has a feature that audibly reads text files. I'm finding that Excel 2003 has speech playback..

When did this feature come into existence and is it available for not just excel but for text documents for ADA persons who have visual impairments and need text files to be read?

OfficeXP had this feature; I don't know about 2000.

Furthermore, have you looked at the Windows Narrator?

Hi ADA-Assistant,

The Text to Speech feature from Excel can be adapted to Word using the process here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287120&FR=1

There are also 3rd party products/add-ins in addition to the Windows Narrator feature that Eric mentioned. Some information from MS
you may be interested in is located on http://microsoft.com/enable
