Speech Recognition Hangs Word 2003

Word hangs after using speech recognition for a
while. .Sometimes its after 2 seconds, sometimes after 15
minutes. Using W2K service pack 4, Office Pro 2003. Must
reboot after the freeze, after which I enter the loop
again like one of Pavlov's dogs. Any intelligent help
greatly appreciated; Ive already spent 4 hrs with
Microsoft on the issue.

Thanks, Mary. After 5 hours of support with a drone in
what they call, with no sense of irony, "Technical
Support", I realize now that there is nothing the techs
have walked me through that isnt contained in the article
to which you directed me. (Nothing in that article helps
either, mind you, but I might have saved the 35 dollars.)
