Speech recognition Word 2003/XP

I have just done a reload of XP. I saved my speech profile from Word 2003.
Does anyone know how to get the reload to accept the old speech profile as it
opens in a new default user mode? I am using Word 2003 for speech as I did
not want to buy Vista!

Pity to waste all the training that has been done of my voice and documents.

If you backed up your speech profile using the Microsoft tool
intended for this purpose, then you can use the same Microsoft
tool to restore your speech profile.

Thanks for your prompt advice. Whilst I have been using the speech engine I
have never come accross any info on a specific back up tool and even today
reading in the how to section of Word 2003 i could not find anything. Could
you let me know what it is and where is is to be found? Are you talking
about the files and settings transfer wizard? I am reluctant to use that as
it just brings accross all the junk that one is trying to get rid of.

I backed it up using Restrspect Express along with everything else. the file
shows as a .SPF. I thought I could copy this to a new profile on reloading
everything. Clearly I may have just have been using common sense!!

Thanks for that. I have downloaded and run the file. It comes up with a
dialogue box which unzips two files to a temporay folder. Done sucessfully.

Now how doI actually get the program to run please?

How is a lay user supposed to know that this program, which is not even a
Microsoft product actually exists?

Double click the Exe file. Of course if you already flushed the
operating system there won't be anything for you to Export for a
Subsequent Import. This is for the next time you want to save your
Speech training.

The "official position" is that what you what you want to do is not
supported. The reasoning being that the speech profile is hardware AND
user specific.

Many thanks for your help Bob. Much appreciated. The .exe program was on at
line below the page and I didn't see it!!

I have actually recoverd the old profile form the backup and imported it to
the new setup, so all's well. I hope I can remember about the Speech Profile
Manager when next I buy a new one or have to do a reload.

How is the speech engine in Vista and the one after that? I have found this
one to be very effective once it has been trained. Are the profiles forward
compatible?

You're quite welcome. As to the "future", the speech combo got removed
from Office (not in 2007) and placed in the operating system (Vista).
How well it works I can't say as i don't have that combo currently
available. As to the utility, it was from 2004 and Vista isn't listed as
supported, and predates Vista significantly, it may work, but I would
not be at all surprised if it failed completely. Vista may have some
"save profile features", but i don't use that OS enough to mess with the
speech parts and look under the covers.
