speed of the querys

My question is about the speed of the querys
(simple) when the tables have about 300.000 records
(lines of data).

What wants of the querys it is to join data, for instance
to have given for zones and to want to add to stop to have data in the
parents, everything simple operations.

Is there some thing that she can do?
