Speed - project 2002 enterprise

Hi,

We are evaluating MS Project professional and MS Project
Enterprise server 2002. We seem to have encountered some
speed issues, that is, it seems very slow when saving and
opening projects. I anticipate this issue to worsen in
our real environment where there will be higher number of
users and projects.

Has anyone else encountered this issue and are there any
solutions to solve the speed issue?

It depends what "slow" is for you. We use MSProject Pro & Server 2003, so our experience may not be directly comparable. Over a normally loaded 100BaseT network connection load times are slower than from a hard drive by a factor of 2-3. Enterprise projects with lots of external links are much slower than those with few or no links since the system "opens" each linked project. However, it is not unacceptably slow (meaning you can usually start working within 30 seconds after launch). This is in production use with about 25 enterprise projects in the 100-400 task count range and 80 resources. Saving is much faster than opening.
