I use Word 2007 and have the same problem at both home and the office.
When Word finds a spelling error I will usually use the 'Autocorrect'
function to automatically fix it in the future. Often, however, when I
choose the right word offered by Autocorrect it replaces my
misspelling with a totally different word. Eg., let's say I misspelled
allegory; I choose 'allegory' under the Autocorrect menu, but it
actually inserts the word 'alligator' into my text. If I click undo
and then repeat the process, I'll get a message saying that I've
already saved an Autocorrect for allegory and asking whether I want to
use it. If i say yes, it will work correctly. Clearly there's
something wrong here, but I don't know what.
