spell check disappeared

I have just had to reinstall all my software and although I have
outlook 5.02 up and running and all the the messages are back as is
the address book the spell check has disppeared.
In Edit - Preferences the tab for spelling is dull and I cannot click
on it.
I am sure it si somethign to do with where I have installed word but
do not know how to link them up
I am runngin Outlook in Classic 9.2 but also have OS x installed.
can anybody help please
