Spell Check functionality without Word 2007

Although this may be covered by other threads, different folks use different
terminology so some answers seem inconsistent or incomplete. Clarification
would be appreciated

I use Office 2003. Want to upgrade to Outlook 2007 without upgrading entire
Suite.

I know that "auto correct" does not work unless Word and Outlook match, but
because there are different levels of auto correct, I'm not sure how to read
the answers.

If I have Outlook 2007 and Word 2003, use HTML but not Word as my editor, then

a) Will manual spelling correction (F7) work
b) Will auto correct before sending be functional

I know that correction as I type will not work, but that is not an issue for
me if a) and/or b) are functional.

b) Will "Check spelling before send" work.
