Spell check - Global or per document?

I often like to work with "Check spelling as you type" on. But some
documents have too many non standard words in them, so for those documents I
want that setting off. It seems that the "Check spelling as you type"
setting is global. Is there a way to turn it off for only some documents?

The "check spelling as you type" setting is global. You can mark any block
of text as "do not check spelling or grammar" to avoid unhelpful
spell-checking. Select the relevant text and mark it using the Tools >
Language > Set Language dialog

If something doesn't make sense, it could be worse e.g.

Maybe a macro and associated icon in the toolbar?

As I don't know vba, I've used the Macro Recorder.

Sub NoSpellCheck()
'
' NoSpellCheck Macro
' Macro recorded 26 November 2003 by SK

'
Selection.LanguageID = wdEnglishUS
Selection.NoProofing = True
Application.CheckLanguage = True
End Sub= True
End Sub

and made a button on the toolbar.

I can see how this will be handy and is maybe a workable solution, although
it would be nice to just tell the whole document and everything added to it
to not be spell checked.

Thanks for the help,
Steve

That's why macros are so handy. Everything YOU want added to the product is
called bloat by everyone else :).
