Spell Check in Protected Form

Dorci

Word 2003: Trying to spell check a protected form (.DOT). I've followed the
instructions at http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/MacrosVBA/SpellcheckProtectDoc.htm,
including replacing the spellcheck button on the Standard toolbar and the
Tools menu. The problem is, once I close the template and reopen it (or open
it in .DOC format), the button and menu options have reset to the original
funtions, which are not available in a protected form. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Additional note: I noticed that if I turn off protection, open the toolbar
customization and close it (without making any changes), the Spell Checker
button reappears. How do I make it "stick" so that it's available when you
first open the template or the document?

More add'l info:
When I open the sample document, the custom spell checker button is not
visible, and the standard spell checker button is grayed (as it should be).
When I click in the unprotected section, the std button becomes available, so
I click it. When it's finished spell-checking the unprotected section, the
button disappears, and the custom button shows up ready to spell check the
protected section. Odd!

Furthermore, when another employee opens the sample document, the custom
spell check button is readily available.

Sounds like the problem lies with my macro settings or something. Any ideas?

After scouring the Net, I discovered the problem was the Adobe PDFMaker
toolbar. After disabling that, the macro button and menu options "stuck"!
BUT, when I email the document (based on the template with the macro), the
macro disappears again. Please help!

If you create Document "B" based on Template "A" which has macros and
toolbar settings, and then send Document "B" to someone who does not have
access to Template "A", then, by design, they will not have access to those
macros and toolbar settings because they reside in the template, not the
document.

You either have to do a "Ssave As" from the template itself to create a
document form the template (But you will lose any AutoText entries if you
are using them) so that the macros and toolbar settings will be part of the
document itself or send the template along with the document and tell your
user to place both template and document in then same folder.

Salut!
