Each time I open spell check, it switches over like I'm trying to edit the
text. Each time I select "Undo Edit Text", it reverts back to the same. It
will flash the proper way and then revert back to this no matter what I do.
Essentially it is not allowing me to spell check at all because I can't check
for errors when this continuously happens. Any suggestions for fixing this?

Have you received any feedback on this at all? I'm going to try to
remove and reinstall first just parts of Office, and if that doesn't
work, then all of Office. It is as if the spell checker thinks that
you have pressed some keys in the edit area, when you have not. I'm
scanning the troublesome machine now with Sophos, but this feels more
like some sort of bug than a virus. Especially since the computer is
extremely unlikely to be infected. It is hardly used for the Internet
and the email usage is innnocuous. Please let me know if you find
anything. The web seems to be bare on this one, though.

It's unlikely that Disgruntled is still looking at this message; it
may be that s/he received no answer because the problem isn't clearly
described.

Please tell us what problem _you_ are having with Spell Check.

NB Uninstalling/reinstalling almost _never_ has any effect on any
problem.

Maybe I didn't explain the problem as well as I should have. Essentially,
when I open spell check in any document, it acts as if I have tried to edit
the text even when I touch nothing. I wish I had some sort of screen
recording software so that I could show you because that'd be much easier.
And yes, it is on a Dell laptop that I'm having the issue. This didn't used
to happen so I'm not sure what changed.

The problem is perfectly described, in my opinion. If you want to see
the behavior, open spell checker, and then type something in the
little edit window. You will see the buttons change so that the
option to Undo Edit is one of the buttons. What is happening is that
as soon as you open the spell checker, even without typing anything in
that box, it goes to that Undo Edit mode, as if you had typed
something in that box.

Again, it appears this may be some issue with the Dell laptop
touchpad, according to that other link I posted.

No question, this is a weird one. I did not find a lot of feedback on
this. It appears to be quite rare.
