spell check problem

I recently bought Office 2008 and have been having problems with spell
check. It happens when I use "mark changes" while dealing with my
editor. I'll run spell check on the finished document, switched to the
"clean" or non-marked-up mode. The spell checker, however, will
identify garbled passages that amount to mixed up versions of various
edits.

So the copy will look -- and print -- clean. But spell check will turn
up something like "The PresidentPresident Obama said yesterdayTuesday
that he could changereform ...."

Spell check is mixing up various edits and identifying garble that
doesn't really existl. Any thoughts on how to get out of this fix?

I had been using Office X -- now deleted -- and never had this issue.

Well, I am afraid you have found your own answer: resolve the tracked
changes before you spell-check, or expect the problem.

You may have better results if you do not hide the markup.

I normally recommend that people do NOT track changes. Keep the original
version, then make your edits without tracking the changes. Then
spell-check. And finally, apply all the changes using Compare Documents at
the end of the process. This will accurately track all the changes and give
you far fewer problems with bugs and document corruption.

It pays to work entirely in .docx, various things will play up in the old
format.

Sorry...

Okay, thanks. Unfortunately, my workflow is not entirely up to me --
some editors like "track changes," and also to keep the edit
"trace" (and they think that line-by-line okaying of changes is a
waste of time, in deadline situations). Also, I'm on Word' 08 for OSX
and they're often on the '03 PC version, so docx is out of the
question.

I'll try out spell check with the markups unhidden, for starters.

I can't say there won't still be TC issues but why is .docx "... out of the
question"? Any PC user running Word 2000 or later should be able to open,
edit & resave in .docx format -- the Dark Side was provided with the
Converter package long before we got it on the Mac.
