Spell Check Problems

I have a problem with spell check in word. My computer is running xp pro with
ms office 2000 on it. For some reason my spell check does not work all of the
time. Here is an example I will type the word captial and it will check the
whole document and say spelling is all right. When it should have told me
Captial should be spelled capital. Here are some extra pieces of info, 1) I
recently switched OS's from 98 to Xp Pro and I copied the normal. dot file
over 2) I read a bunch of other post and tried setting the tools>language to
default and this did not work 3) when I type the same word on a different
computer it auto corrects it with out me even running spell check. Any help
would be great. Thanks

Select just the word "captial." Then go to Tools | Language | Set Language.
What language is selected? Is "Do not check spelling or grammar" checked? To
make Word show misspellings as you type, check the box for "Check spelling
as you type" on the Spelling & Grammar tab of Tools | Options.
