Spell Check runs at program start

whenever I launch any Office 3 app: ppt, word, excel, the
spell check runs and can not be killed or closed or
stopped.

Any ideas on why & how to fix?

Office 3.0?! Wasn't aware there was any such thing - it's a positive relic
if there is! What system are you running this on?!
