Spell check seems to like french... I dont

J

Justin Rich

so i have installed 2007 pro plus the other day (not multi lang) and for
some reason the spell check could care less about any spelling mistakes. I
have manually told it to run, it seems to be pretty happy about whatever
i've typed (with mistakesm, it just smiles and says DONE!).

I have checked a bunch of my lang settings with no luck.

if i do the office tools language settings i only have english installed.

If i check proofing options i have an english dictionary but i have a few
references in there to french stuff, such as "french mode" which has
"traditional and new spellings" and then each on its own as options. and
there is an option (unchecked) called "enforce accented uppercase in French"

i dont think i have any language packs or anything. i dont know french at
all.

If i go to the Review tab, in the Proofing section i click the "set
language" it says its english
If i look at the Regional and Language settings in control panel it all says
English.

If i run a spell check in here (OLE) it tries to correct based on a french
dictionary (so dont mind my spelling here )

what on earth is going on here?!

Thanks
Justin

Thanks, this might be slightly different thought. most of the links that
came up referred to OE having french and implied that office itself was
fine. In my case office itself doesnt work at all and OE is in french.

I found one tool that fixed OE (yay! i will only look like a slight fool to
you guys now) but im still having issue with the Office spell checker. Im
running the system file check now (sfc /scannow) but im not holding my
breath on that one.

I got a KB from the links you gave me
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932974) but again that refers specifically
to OE, not Office, this kb also implies that Office is fine and OE is
broken.

I'll see what turns up with the SFC and let you know.

Hi - Ive had the same problem with a conflict with MSOffice 2007 and OE6
leaving me with a french dictionary..

I solved it by installing only the "office tools" & "converters and filters"
from my previous version of Office 2000 and ........ great I now have an
English dictionary... hope this helps you.

Check to see if you have the registry key that I have pasted below.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Proofing
Tools\1.0\Override\en-US

If you have that registry key, export the key, and then delete it. See if
that doesn't solve your problem.
