Spell Check wont check

R

RockyRoad

I have a document (Word 2004), and no matter what crazy missspelling
[sic] I type, the Spell Check says that everything is fine. If I open a
new document, the Spell Check works again as normal.

If I paste all the text of this document into a new document, the
problem persists.

Is there a way to reset spell checking on an individual document?

Thanks.

That's how it is supposed to happen. When you mark some text in a specific
language, the text will carry that language association into another
document. In other words, the language settings are connected with the text
in question, not with the document, which explains why the spellcheck works
normally when you open a new document.

There is. Select the text you want to spellcheck, then go to Tools>Options.
Select the language in which you want Word to perform the spellcheck, and
make sure that the checkbox "Do not check spelling or grammar" is not
selected. And by "not", I mean "not at all", so if there's a hyphen, simply
click on the checkbox till it is empty. Select "Ok", and that should solve
the problem.

Actually, Tools | Language.

You're right, of course. Thanks for correcting me.

I suspect the OP would have figured it out anyhow, on not finding Tools |
Options, since you said select a language. :)
