Spell check

When adding to a previously spell-checked document, when I run the
spell-check function to check the additions to the document it checks the
entire document. I only want to spell-check the new material. How do I set
the spell-checker to only check the new material I've added?

Thanks!

There is no such setting. But if you select the new material first, and
press F7 to check the spelling, Word will check only the selected text and
then ask whether to continue with the rest. Answer no.

Okay, I think I can probably live with that. Why, however, after
spell-checking a document and saving it, when I return to it later it appears
not to have been spell-checked at all? All the red wavy lines are still
there. Why do I have to spell-check this document every time I edit it?

That's just the way Word works -- it doesn't have any place to save a list
of what has been checked and what hasn't.

If you don't want to look at the red wavy lines, and just want to run a
manual spell-check when you're ready, then go to Tools > Options > Spelling
& Grammar (in Word 2007, Office button > Word Options > Proofing) and turn
off the option for "Check spelling as you type".

Thanks Mr. Freedman. I appreciate your assistance! I assume this is one of
the "new & improved" features of Word 2007. This is the first version of Word
that I've ever used that doesn't have this function. One wonders if there's a
logical explanation as to why this particular feature was abandoned.

Again, thanks!

Jay Freedman - thanks!! I changed the setting to stop the check as I type
function. This did the trick!! I appreciate all the assistance!
