Spell check

I receive two kinds of messages:
1) Spell check has ben halted do you want to send anyway?
2)An error occured while the spelling was being checked.

I have XP and the latest version of Internet Explorer 6.
System has windows 97 office, word, excel and powerpoint
with working spell checks.

Is there an upgrade or patch for this problem?
