Hello

I have word for mac, and for some reason, I do NOT have spell check installed. I don't know if this was a fluke when I was downloading the program (I didn't download ALL of office, just word and powerpoint). I am driving myself bananas writing papers for school is a gigantic hassle.

Is there anyway to get spell check installed on my mac??

What version and where did you download it from?

I have version 11.

I got it from my sister, she had a disk she had bought and hadn't used yet, and then wanted it back after I installed it so I can't reinstall.

If you don't have the source disk there isn't much you can do - no parts of
Office are available [legitimately] for download, and even if they were
you'd need proof of ownership - which you also don't have.

What is it that makes you believe the Spell Check isn't installed? Be as
accurate, specific & complete as you can.

There could be something else that's causing to not *seem* to be available.
Take a look in ~/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Shared Applications &
see if the Proofing Tools folder is there - if so, what's in it?

Also in the ~/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office folder look for
files called English Dictionary and English Dictionary 2. Are they there?

I believe that it is not there because word tells me that there is "No english proofing tools installed"

Thanks for the replys!

Based on that message - and if you couldn't find the files I referred to in
my previous reply - I'm afraid you're stuck. You need to get the original
disk and install the missing features or invest in a copy of your own.

Hmmm... Is this in ALL documents?

On the PC, there are 29 "flavours" of English. If you have a document from
a PC that is marked in a version of English you don't have, it "might"
produce this error.

Usually, it would say something like "No English (Canadian) proofing tools
installed."

It is actually very difficult to "avoid" installing the proofing tools when
installing Office 2008.

Have a look in the folder /Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Office/Shared
Applications/Proofing Tools/

If there is anything in there, then your proofing tools are installed, and
that is not the problem.

Hope this helps

when I go to the folder "office", I do not see shared applications or proofing tools on there. does this mean I do not have it? it does say that I have english dictionary 1 and 2

I'd say so. You have a partial installation there.

You need to get the disk back and run the Remove Office tool, then do a
re-install.

Sorry: There is no other solution.
