I've upgraded to windows XP but and have Office 97.
However, now my spell check won't work for my email. Any
suggestions regarding this?

The spell-checker in Outlook Express 6 does not work.
Outlook Express is an email client included as part of Windows. Windows does
not include any spell-checkers. Outlook Express is compatible with the
Common Speller API (CSAPI) used by Office to access spell-checkers, and will
use such compatible spell-checkers if installed with Office.

The CSAPI was updated in Office 2000, so if you are using Office 97 on a
more recent version of Windows then Outlook Express cannot directly use the
Office 97 spell-checker. Fortunately there is a backward compatibility file
CSAPI3T1.DLL that can help here. Locate this file on your computer or your
Windows XP CD, and copy it to the folder C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof.

.
Thanks for the help. I just copied the file from
Windows XP into the suggested file but it still doesn't
work. I restarted the computer to see if that would
help. I still get a message that spell check was
halted. Any other suggestions?

1. Did you copy the file csapi3t1.dll or csapi3t1.dl_ ? If it's the latter,
it's a compressed version of the file that has to be unpacked with the
"Expand" command-line utility to make it work properly.
2. Just checking: is it Outlook Express that you're using for email, or
Outlook?

I copied the dl_ file but have no idea to do the
unpacking step. Can you explain it more fully? I am
using Outlook Express. Thanks

1.Open a CMD window (from Start > Run), and change to the Proof folder (cd
"\program files\common files\microsoft shared\proof")
2. Type "expand csapi3t1.dl_ csapi3t1.dll"
3. close the CMD window
