spell checker in Word and Excel is not recognizing misspellings..

Jonathan

I own Microsoft Office 2007 Student Edition. The program is working fine
except that my spell checker does not recognizing misspellings, even when I
manually spell check. It seems like a settings issue where something has been
turned off or on by accident but I have checked the settings many times and
cannot seem to fix it. I have uninstalled the programs and reinstalled, which
didn't work either. I think all of the settings are being stored, even when
the program has been uninstalled so if somebody knows how to clear that data
after a program is uninstalled, please help me. Recently I have been trying
to find a way to reset everything to default but I have yet discover such a
magical button. This is such a silly issue!

I too am having this same problem...I can't figure out why my spell check no
longer recognizes misspellings. I've messed with all the options/settings
and still get nothing. Help please.

Finally fixed the issue. Tried just about every other suggestion here on the
message board (including Registry keys, changing languages, unchecking all
the "hide errors" boxes, etc.)....turns out it was the Add-in problem. The
en-US had somehow been disabled (maybe an accidental combination of keys I
hit, or just an error somewhere).

Jonathan, check out all the other posts in the board....there are several
different suggestions for this problem. Good luck.

1. Verify settings in Word 2007:
a. Open a document that has this problem, press Ctrl+A to select all of
the text.
b. Click on Review tab | Proofing: Set Language | <choose your language>
| uncheck the "Detect language automatically" and "Do not check spelling
or grammar" boxes | Default | OK.
c. Click on Office Button | Word Options | Proofing | check the "Check
spelling as you type" and "Check grammar with spelling" boxes | uncheck
the "Hide spelling errors in this document only" and "Hide grammar
errors in this document only" boxes | OK.

2. If the previous suggestion doesn't help, then in Word 2007 click on
Office Button | Word Options | Add-Ins | Manage: Disabled Items. If you
see any disabled items that relate to spelling, try enabling them.

3. If the previous two suggestions don't help, then:
a. Close Word and any other open applications.
b. Click on Start | Run | Open: regedit .
c. If the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared
Tools\Proofing Tools\1.0\Override" exists, delete it.
d. Exit regedit.
e. Restart your computer.
