Spell checker

R

Richard

I am a support technician. We have about 300 employees a few of which use
HTML formatted emails. One of the things we have noticed is when a user
spell checks an email in this format, nothing happens. The words are ignored
or the spell check never runs. I can make a visible yet simple misspelling
to check and nothing happens. It stays incorrect. Can this be changed so
that HTML formatted emails can be spell checked. The current work around is
to change the format to plain text, spell check then convert back to HTML.
This is a bit of a lengthy process when you are trying to send a quick email.
Does anyone have a better solution.

Version of Outlook?
Word or OUtlook as the e-mail editor?
Does the spellcheck work correctly in Word?

We use Outlook 2003 exclusively. We do not allow the use of Word as the
editor.

When is it failing - when you spell check on send or hit F7 or as you type?

BTW - why don't you allow Word as the editor? It's an excellent editor for
Outlook 2002 and 2003 and is the only editor for 2007.

It fails both when you hit F7 and when you have it check on send. The reason
we do not use it is due to the fact that word tends to add an html element to
emails which tends to get hung in many spam and virus detection systems. We
have I think, three people that are allowed to use HTML format for their
emails and only on internal emails then.

Have you tried detect and repair? Spell check should work on HTML when you
send but may fail on spell check as you type in some case.

you can easily configure outlook to send only plain text and if you use
exchange server, configure it to send only plain text outside the network.
BTW - a good AV/AS system will not flag html messages as spam just because
they are HTML - you'd need to use certain keywords or elements that would
increase the score.
