Spell Checking with Track Changes

At the moment when I use track changes, the spelling picks up both edits
together, eg commissioned(s) - in brackets is the deleted text - the spelling
picks it up as commissioneds. I am currently using Word 2002, even Word97
correctly checks the document!

Has anyone else come across this before - and do you have a fix ?
