Spell/Grammar check failure

My daughter has Office XP as do i--both of us run Win 2000
on generic PCs--in the last two weeks she has been unable
to spell or grammar check her documents--they say "spell
check completed" (it wasn't) or "can't find spell check
dll." file (same for grammar). If she sends docs to me , I
am also unable to spellcheck even if i cut and paste text
to new doc . My spell/grammar check works fine on my own
docs as well as any of hers created before the "problem"--
clearly something has happened which renders her
docs "uncheckable" and is embedded in the doc itself.--any
ideas?--thanks---jim

Yes, these are all covered in the help file under "Spelling". Select the
text, go to Tools > Language > Set Language and then choose your desired
language AND clear "the do not check..." checkbox AND the language detection
checkbox.

Mike--thanks--i'll ask my daughter to try it--sorry about
cross post;am new and had no idea where people might be
reading---i had tried Word help and did not find your
suggestion-i brought up the problem text on my machine,
did as you suggested and my settings were already as you
said they should be and of course i still could not check
the document..so it appears the doc is "carrying" the
problem with it from her copy of Word??--will let you know
when she checks her Word settings---as a real newbie, is
there a way to get to an "index" in Word help and not use
the 'ask a question format"--thank you for your time---jim

English , not just see it with a "checkmark" in list of
languages- you did say this, but i misinterpreted-sorry--
