Spellcheck not turned on?

Hi,

I'm using a .doc generated from a .dot. The document contains a table to
fill out. The AutoCorrect is functioning perfectly. However, spell and
grammar check won't detect errors. I've checked the language and set it to US
and UK English, and I've gone to Tools>Options and checked those settings.
I've also tried to Ctrl+A and set the language; plus, I researched past
postings on this board, but nothing is working.
