Spellchecking oddity

Hello:
Can you please tell me if you have heard of this issue happening before. I
am troubleshooting for an employee using Word 2000, SP-3. She is transcribing
a document in a template (this template was created in the transcription
program not Word). She has spellcheck turned on to check the spelling as she
types. When she is done with the document she also spellchecks again by
clicking on the spell check function in the toolbar (I don't know why she
does it twice). When she does this she loses the header and footer and ends
up with just the text she transcribed. This is not happening to any of the
other employees and as far as I know she is the only one who is "double spell
checking.

You can probably guess what my first suggestion to her was, but do you have
any other thoughts?

Sounds like she is switching to normal view rather than print view after the
spellcheck.

They always use normal view. Are they supposed to be in print view for
spellcheck?

They always use normal view.

If they're in Normal view, they can't see the headers and footers. One must be
in the print layout or print preview in order to see headers and footers.

When she is done with the document she also spellchecks again by

Hi Cindy:
We can see the footer, but it is ghosted. If we double click in the area of
the ghosted footer then it appears and is editable. The footer is part of a
template created in the transcribing program. During the document creation
process the template is dropped into a Word document. My fear is that the
user might be causing a dysfunction of the template by editing it in Word. I
thought I would start with Microsoft before going to the transcription
program support, as they would probably check here also.

Disfunction of the template? Only if you don't want the footers edited.

Word is set up to display "ghosted" headers and footers in print view. They
print out at full strength.

I went back and checked and the documents are in Print Layout. The issue
hadn't even gotten as far as printing. the problem was happening while the
report was being transcribed. I just a little while ago had the user change
her spellcheck settings and the problem seems to have cleared itself.
