Spelling/Grammar Check works ok. Unable to obtain readability stat

I assume you've enabled readability stats? Tools - Options - Spelling and
Grammar - Show Readability Statistics.

If so, the next thing is to make sure that proofing tools for the selected
language are installed. For example, if I mark text here as Spanish or
English, I get the readability stats. If I mark text as Albanian, however, I
don't.

At the risk of appearing completly stupid, I do not understand what you meant
by "For example, if I mark text here as Spanish or
English, I get the readability stats. If I mark text as Albanian, however, I
don't."

i.e.-"mark"?? The default language is set as English Canadian ..

I have used Word 97 and previous iterations for many years. Have never
encountered this problem previously which akes me think that it's time for an
uninstalll/reinstall. DRat!
Thanks.

Language is a character/font level formatting attribute, although it's set
using Tools - Language, rather than Format - Font. I.e., you can select any
amount of text, and choose Tools - Language - Set Language, and format the
selected text as any language. If you have the corresponding proofing tools
installed on your computer, then you can perform spelling and grammar
checking in that language. For example, I frequently work in Spanish and
English. By default, my installation of Office assumes everything will be
English US.

That said... if yours is set to English Can, you very likely do have the
correct proofing tools. So, it's probably a settings issue of some kind.

Let me ask this... do grammar & spelling tools work otherwise? I.e., if you
make deliberate spelling/grammar mistakes, does Word find them?

Note: if the problem is a settings issue, it's very unlikely that removing &
reinstalling will solve the issue, since removing/reinstalling, by design,
leave many Office settings unchanged.

Yes, thanks Herb, the grammar and spelling checks work correctly. Thank you
for your assistance. Settings, would I fear, be a challeging a 'fix', no?
Registry editing? I have done some relatively straightforward ones, but..

Well, Herb, I'm back.I tried all of the applicable fixes which your page
provided, without success. Then I reset Normal.dot under File, Open as
described:
On the File menu, click Open, and then navigate to C:\Documents and
Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

Anyway, Readability Statistics now work as they did previously on any Word
docs in my files, other than the most current ones.
Seems about as good as it's going to get.

Thank you sincerely for all of your time and effort!

Alan.
