Please update the dictionary in Microsoft Word to reflect the name 'Hamer" as
being spelled correctly. Fannie Lou Hamer was a great African-American
activist.

The way you do this is add Hamer to your custom dictionary. There are many
names of famous or important people that are not in the lexicon.

Would that be "Grammar"?

If the name of every famous person was added to the Spell Checker lexicon,
your computer would be overloaded. For this reason, only commonly used names
are included.

Additionally, poor spellers who don't know how many m's there are in Hammer
would be totally confused if both Hamer and Hammer were marked as correct.
So you can see that the choice of what to include or exclude is not a simple
decision.
