Spelling highlights as error correct phrases

I use Word with the Mac for some 15 years, so I'm quite familiar with it's functions. In Word 2008 I have a problem with Spelling and Grammar that I did not encounter in Word 2004, ever: when I write a text in German and have it defined as German, quite often it underlines green in a phrase like "er meinte, dass er ..." the "dass" from the comma on. When I run the spelling it suggests to remove the blank after the comma, making it look like "meinte, dass" which is, not only in English, wrong. It does not do this in any instance, but much too often.

A similar thing with green underlining happens often, that Word underlines several words green when in the line above a word is, correctly, underlined red. As soon as I correct the red marked word, the green underlining goes away.

These things prevent me for a year now switching from Word 2004 to 2008. How can I get rid of that problem.

When writing in English I do not encounter that behaviour.

Please help,
Wladimir

Green lines come from the Grammar checker. You can try setting various grammar check options in the Preferences->Spelling and Grammar->Settings... dialog.

Hi Wladimir:

I don't know of any cure to this bug in German in the current version (other
than to ensure that you have all the latest updates applied).

You could hope that the next version of Word might offer some help. In Word
2008, there are numerous problems with non-English spelling and grammar.

Sorry about that.

Hi John,

Thanks for being that honest. I do have all the updates available installed, and still this problem persists.

So I hope for improvement and will switch back to Word 2004, where this bug does not exist.

Regards,
Wladimir Zalozieckyj Sas

Yes, if you have the option, I would indeed switch back to Word 2004. The
spelling and grammar in Office 2008 is a real problem child...

Cheers
