Spelling Preferences won't stay in 2004

Hi all,

I upgraded to Entourage 2004 because of the Aprils Fool 1412 error. But for
some reason, it never keeps my spelling preferences in the program.

I open the preferences, select my choices and click "ok." When I go to open
the preferences again, they are not selected.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks,
Blake

Is your spelling tab grayed out, or is the preference just not sticking?

Be sure the Custom Dictionary is at the top of the list of dictionaries.
Entourage can only access the top dictionary in the list.
Go to MS Word/Preferences/Spelling & Grammar/Custom Dictionary, and browse
again to your Custom Dictionary. You're best leaving language as (none).
Restart your computer.
Now, try Entourage again.

I suggest running Repair Permissions.

Using Repair Permissions after installing MS Office or any application that
uses an installer is often advised. To use Repair Permissions:
1. Open Disk Utility in your Applications/Utility folder.
2. Click on the First Aid tab and select Repair Permissions
3. Click on the icon for your boot volume.
4. Click the repair permissions button.

Don't run from CD. Updates contain a newer versions of the application's
permissions.

Hi Diane,

The spelling tab is not grayed out, I click the selection for my spelling
preferences, click ok and then when I open the preferences again, it is
unselected and nothing is checked.

I repaired permissions. I re-installed Entourage 2004. No change.

I am using Entourage 2004 with Word and Excell X. I just like the way Word
and Excel work in X, so I kept them while upgrading Entourage because of the
Hotmail 1412 error.

When I try to browse to select my custom dictionary, where I am looking for
my custom dictionary? I see English dictionary in the Office folder, but it
is grayed out when I try to select it.

For Dictionary Language in preference, it says "no languages available."

Any thoughts?

Most likely it's the fact you are mixing two versions. Entourage shares the
file with Word and Excel. I know for example that running both Entourage X
and Entourage 2004 at the same time would create multiple Microsoft Database
daemon in the startup items folder. This would cause Entourage to crash. You
can have only one. I suspect that there is confusion over the file being
used by two different versions and therefore not sticking.

I've never heard of anyone mixing versions like this.

Thanks, Diane. That worked perfectly. I am now just using 2004 and my
dictionaries work fine.
