spelling problem with new Dell and outlook express

I got OE express and IE preloaded on my new laptop from Dell. I then loaded
my Office 97. Word spell check works fine in Word.

When I send emails I get "an error occured in the spell check". How can I
fix this? or alternatively how can I let OE know I've got the speller loaded
now? \

Any suggestions welcome.
