Spinning wheel when I try to open a document or save

B

I'm running OSX 10.4.3 and word 2004, just this week I 've found I can't open
any documents, Word will launch ok from the dock and a new black document is
created.

If I try to save the document I get the spinning wheel, If I try to open an
existing document I get the spinning wheel.

Has anyone had this problem?

Have you tried to open a document by double clicking on it? When trying
to open an existing document, at which stage do you get the spinning
wheel? Is it when you click open, or is it after you have selected the
document in the open dialog box? Are you on a network, or do you have
an external drive mounted?

The answers to these questions may say something about your problem. I
have had similar problems when the network I'm on has had problems, and
OSX was unable to access one or more network drives.
