split a numbered list into columns

Hi,

I have a numbered list that I copied from the web and pasted into
word.

I want to split it into columns.

I put the cursor where I want to split it and select two columns but
nothing happens.

I pasted it in plain text (the numbers are still there) too but the
same problem.

I select the whole list and hit 'none' to remove the numbering but
it's still there.

Right now that are paragraph characters and not paragraph symbols at
the end of each line.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. Sorry about all the "Is", I'm not an egoist but just trying to
make an unnumered list

Word does not use the cursor to indicate were you want a "column-split".
Firstly you need to tidy up the content you have pasted over from the web.

If you want columns you must insert section breaks - continuous before and
after the content you wish within the columns, check Help instruction on
Columns.
Apart from Columns you could use a multi column table instead of column page
layout. There is a function that converts Text to Tables which can use
various separators to construct the table, see Help on Text to Tables.

Interestingly enough, after reading your post I selected 'formatting'
from the ribbon and then 'break' (to do as you suggested) and there is
a 'column break'

The column break is effective only if you have already formatted the text
into multiple columns. See

weren't showing as such.

I played a lot this morning so I won't be able to recreate what I did
but will use the article next time.

In Normal/Draft view, columnar text is shown in a single column.
