If I understand the question the only way to do so -- Mac or PC -- is to use
Merged Cells. Doing so, however, introduces a whole new world of problematic
behavior that is hardly worth the grief, aggravation & potential corruption
of the file. Long story short, merged cells are best avoided, period.

IMHO, you'd do better to reconsider how to structure your work... Either put
the 2nd body of content in a separate set of columns, on a different sheet,
or in a different workbook altogether.

If you insist on going with your current plan see Excel Help on the topic
entitled: Merge or split cells or cell contents... And make sure you
maintain a current backup of everything of value.

Hello,

Don't know how to do this on a Mac, and desperately need to learn. If I create
my grid of cells and columns and data, I then want to split the page below it,
so that I may do another grid below it and change it's cell widths without
changing the width of the cells above. Please help! What do I do?

If you simply want to see the same spreadsheet in different (split)
views without actually changing the cell or column widths per se,
you can use the Window - Split function. However, the zoom level
will be the same for all views.

If you want to see a new view of the same spreadsheet and change
the zoom value for the new view, try the Window - New Window
function. It's like cloning your current window.
Anything you edit in the new window will be changed in the old one.
However, you have the advantage of increasing the "cell size" (as you
put it) or zoom level, to make it easier to work.

Is this what you were after?

Jeff
