Split Slide presentation

I saw a ppt presentation the other day where the individual had split the
side. On the left half were bulleted topics that they could click on. When
they clicked on a topic, applicable bulleted information would appear on the
right half of the slide. Different information would appear on the right half
for each one of the clicked-on topics on the left side. How is this done? Can
anyone help me?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Andrew

Like most things in life there are a few different ways to achieve this. My
2 favs would be triggers or hyperlinks depending on how many bullet points
you have that you want to 'link'. I'm going to run with hyperlinks as it's
easier to explain :)

You didn't mention your version so I'm going with 2003 (same in 2002/XP).
Post back if using 2007 or 2000.

1. Create as many blank slides as topics plus one extra giving tham all a
title (if you don't want the title to appear give it the same text colour as
the background or drag it off the slide)
2. Go to the slide master (view -> master -> slide master or hold shift +
click on the normal view button)
3. Add your bullet points (tip - add them in individual text boxes so you
can hyperlink to the text box rather than the text. Just trust me on that
one. There are lots of handy alignment buttons you can use to make it look
neat and tidy hidden away in Tools -> Customise -> Commands -> Drawing)
4. Hyperlink text boxes to relevant slide (select text box -> ctrl K ->
Place in this document)
5. Return to Normal View
6. Add your additional bullet points to your slides.
7. Test in Slide show view (hyperlinks do not work in any other view)
8. Grin at your own cleverness :)

Quite a lot of info packed in there so if you have any other questions
please post back.

Ooops

Forgot to mention:
1. Turn off 'advance on click' on all slides
2. Add a hyperlink to the master to return you to your 'home page' if you
want (the one with just the bullet points and no additional info) or add a
big rectangle with no fill over all the other slides and hyperlink to 'home
page'
3. You will need to add some way of navigating past this looping bit (ie a
hyperlink to the slide for when you've finished this bit).

You could also use custom shows, but we can work our way up to that ;-)

Thanks for all of the effort, I appreciate your time in answering this.
However, I don't think this is exactly what I was looking for and it may be
as a result of my own unclarity. The ppt that I saw had one slide and it was
split in two halves. Within the left half were three bullet points with main
topics listed. As you clicked on an one of these, the right side of the same
slide would populate with text that applied to the clicked on topic. When you
selected another bullet point from the left side, different information would
populate the right side. The key here is that all of the information could be
viewed without hyperlinking to different slides and going back and forth.
Does that make sense?

Thanks again for any advice!

If you are using PPT 2002 or later, you can do this with triggered
animations. You would set up the left side bullets in boxes, like a menu.
Clicking any item on the menu would start the entrance animation for the
content related to that topic. Click the content, it goes away. Click a
different menu item and different content appears.

Is this closer to what you are looking for? If so, let us know what version
PPT you are using so that we can all help you better.

Hi again

There are a few ways to do this and I was trying to give you the way I find
simplest - it doesn't look like you are going to a different slide if you set
the slide transition to no transition. If it has to be on one slide then use
triggers as Kathy suggested. Post back if you don't know what we're talking
about ;-)
