split task with same time interval

Project 2007
I want a spilt task of 10 x 2 hrs work per day, spread over 10 consecutive
days
how do I make the interval between 2 tasks equal to 24 hrs in 1 go
or dor I have to make 10 separate tasks, meaning 10 separated lines ?

I'm puzzled by exactly what you want. The word "split" in Project is
usually applied to tasks which are indeed "split", e.g. broken up, in
time with multiple start.

I guess it all depends on what you want.

I suspect you want 10 tasks. Set the first on up, say each with
Type: fixed work
Duration: 1 day
Work: 2 hours
If applicable, make each the successor of it's predecessor and they will
then spread out across the next 10 days.

Or if you are saying that you are modeling one task (or one deliverable)
that will be worked on 2 hours per day over the next 10 days, then do
that (but no need to "split" using Project's nomenclature). Could be:
Type: fixed work (20 hrs)
Units: 0.2
Duration: 10 days

Depends on what you want.

The latter one might be the one I need.
One general task which lasts 10 days, split-up in small daily time periods
of 1 hr, one on eazch day.
meaning, fixed duration = 10 days ?
but why is my task bar not splitting-up in pations of 1 hr (unless I use the
split functionalitty) ?

Hi

Since you do not want a split task but 10 days continuous task with 2 hrs
work on each day, you may also use the functionality of Recuring tasks.
Insert a Recurring task, daily pattern, 0.25 days (if you are using 8 hrs
working calendar), 10 occurrences. You will see each days work separately
also, and also together for 10 days, with some splits in between.

I hope it helps.

In the latter case Project is spreading the work across the duration
like butter.

If you want what you say, you need the first.

But ... are you really scheduling at that level of detail? Is this
really required?

dear Vanita
correct, but, in this case I get 10 different tasks spread over 10 different
lines,
the point is that I want the same performance but shown on 1 line !

Dear Rob
the issue here is that one single project is spread over weeks, and if you
consider small tasks for 1 hour every day over this period gives a mess and a
huge number of lines within 1 project
that's what I want to avoid

Understand. What I don't understand is your continued need or
expectation to split the task. If you must split it, the right way is
the way you are rejecting, and I think you are wise to reject it. So, I
would advise to not try to see more ways to split it.

But if you don't detail the individual tasks you can't schedule and manage
them. And if you don't do that, why bother putting it into MS Project at
all?

You got 500,000 lines to play with and they're free! Go ahead and use 'em
liberally.
