split time format

I have time displayed as 12:20:15 for example. This is
downloaded off another system and imported into excel. I
need to display only the hour portion of the time. I have
done this before with some help for someone, but I forgot
what we did. Something about spliting at the colon and
making 3 columns so I would have the hr, min, and sec.
Could someone please help. I have tried to format cells
to hh and no luck.

=SECOND(A1)
