Splitting body text between slides

We upgraded to PPT 2007 recently; I'm using a Dell laptop, XP Pro,
etc.

I'm trying to split body text between slides; when I write slides for
my lectures, I'm used to filling up the slide until it's overflowing,
then clicking on the Auto-Fit Options button, which (until the
upgrade) gave me an option for splitting the text between two slides.

Does PPT 2007 not give us that option? I tried going through Help,
which tells me to go to outlines view, position the cursor, and hit
enter. THE PROCESS OUTLINED IN THE HELPFILE DOES NOT WORK.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I appear to be stuck with New Slide
copy and paste title > cut and paste text, when before I could do
this with one click of the mouse.

I confirm what John said and allow myself adding: slide full of
text?????????????? That's the best way to get the audience asleep

Now THAT'S the reason I posted to this group. Thank you for the
help. Sheesh.

Does anyone with their heads NOT firmly planted ****** read this group?

Maybe.  But that kind of response to what was intended as a helpful
suggestion isn't likely to encourage them to try to help you further.

But wotthehell, my hide's thick.

Are you typing text into a placeholder (ie, if you delete all the text in
it, does it revert to a "Click here ..." gadget?) or into a text box shape?

The latter doesn't offer the "Split text to new slide" and other automatic
formatting options that a placeholder box does.

Using Outline view is another way to do the job.  Type away, watch how deep
the text gets on the slide; when it's time for a new slide, press Enter
then Shift+TAB, type the slide title, then Enter, Tab to start typing
bulleted text again.

SHIFT-TAB PRETTY MUCH FIXES IT. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
That's exactly what I needed.

I've done some experimenting. On some of the themes, the placeholder
works just like it did on PowerPoint 2003. On others ("Civic," for
example), the placeholder does not give me the option of splitting the
text or forcing an empty slide. All it gives me is the "Auto-fit text
to placeholder" and "Stop fitting text to placeholder." But the
procedure you recommend seems to work when the option isn't there.

Anyway: apologies if my response was out of line; my frustration level
is high, and the replies I was getting didn't seem on topic to me. I
kind of figured I was matching the snarky spirit of the replies,
actually. I was asking for help with a PowerPoint problem, not for a
critique of my lectures.

But again: thank you very much, that was just what I needed.
