Splitting Costs

Dave

I would like to pull out IS resource costs from the overall costs. IS
versus Non-IS employees are identified in the OBS. So, for example, I
have a project with 3 tasks as follows (and all resources have a rate
of $50/hr.):

Task 1/Bill (IS )/8 hrs /$400 cost
Task 2/Fred (Non-IS)/8 hrs /$400 cost
Task 3/Bill & Fred /8 hrs each/$800 cost

In that scenario, the total cost is $1600. The IS Cost is $800. Any
suggestions on how I can calculate the IS Cost automatically?

Thanks.

Hello Dave,

In the Resource Usage view, display the Cost field, then apply the "Resource
Group" group.

Gerard,

Thanks for the response and yes, that does work, but it's not exactly
what I was looking for. I should have been more clear in my original
question. What I'm asking is whether or not it would be possible to
create a custom enterprise cost field that would total up only IS labor
costs and if it's possible, how would I go about doing it? To do
that, it seems like I would have to determine what IS resources are
assigned to each task and add only the IS resource costs to come up
with an IS labor cost for each task and then total them. That's beyond
my capabilities in MSP enterprise.

Thanks.

Since you are using Project Server, you can use Portfolio Organizer. This
will give you the added benefit of timephasing the costs. Change the IS
Resource field to an outline code so you don't have to extend the cube.
Then create a Portfolio Analyzer view by resource (and project?) with cost
in the detail field. Filter by the IS Resource field. If you want, you can
add a time dimension.
