Spooler Database Error/Task Duplication

Bob

About 3 weeks ago, I began getting errors of out the MSP spooler
related to one project I was attempting to update to Project Server
2003, (I have about 6 projects going at any one time). It was
Database error 0x80040E14. At the same time, I began having problems
with tasks continuing to display on the "View Task Changes Screen"
after having been being "accepted" and updated. I could not get these
tasks off of the screen, and each time I did an update, these tasks
would be duplicated in the source project file.

I researched and procured a hotfix from Microsoft which in seemed to
address the problem (at least in the literature). It was hotfix for
articles 841361, 843608 and 883505. I also upgraded to SP-1 on both
client (2003) and server (2003).

Well the problem did not go away. It happened to only one of the 6
projects I have going, so I just deleted the project (lost all of the
actuals of course), and renetered a new project with the remaining open
tasks.

Has anyone ever seen this before? I am thinking the project file got
corrupted in someway. If you have seen it, do you know of a fix other
than blowing away the whole project?

Bob:

The problem indicates duplicate task assignments in the database. Installing
the hotfix may keep it from happening in the future, however it doesn't
cleanup the dupes already in the database. One way to fix this is to save
the plan off the server as an mpp file, delete the plan from the server, and
import it again using the Import Wizard. This will eliminate the dupes,
although you'll need to republish everything and select overwrite actual
work in the republish dialog. If you're not using managed time periods, and
you're not counting on the exact historical record of actual work being
retained in the web work tables, it's an easy choice. If you're using
managed time periods, you'll need to turn them off, and understand that the
actual work record may be impacted.

Gary, thanks so much for your help on this. I'll restore the old
project, and do as you suggest
