Spooler error 0x80004005 occurs on first publish/No automatic WSS Site creation

Hi,

we running Project Server 2003 in a distributed setup. Views processing and
SQL Server (Cluster) are on separate machines.

We can manually create WSS sites. How ever they're not automatically
provisioned when a project is published for the first time, although we have
defined this in Admin Settings. In addition to that we get the Spooler error
0x80004005 when we publish a project for the first time. Despite this error
assignments are published correctly. Every publishing process afterwards
works without any Spooler error. We found out that if we switch off
automatic provisioning on the server, then the spooler error disappears.

Does anybody have a hint what could break the communication between the
Spooler and the Project Server?

Thanks in advance for any insight

Keith

MORE INFORMATION
The ViewDrop folder is used to queue requests to publish
project plans and other information to the database.
There is a Windows NT service that reads from this queue
and then processes the requests one at a time. This
procedure optimizes the use of system resources
throughout these sometimes long-running activities. The
folder must have the security settings that permit the
Microsoft Project Server Internet Server Application
Programming Interface (ISAPI) DLL files, to write to the
folder and the security settings that permit the Windows
NT service to read from the folder.

Hi,

thanks for your advice. I'm aware of this article, how ever this is another
situation. The right for the view drop folder are correct and the error
disappears whent we turn off the automatic Site creation.

The only other error we have detected is 0x80040E14, how ever we checked all
setting according to the troubleshooting tips in "Microsoft Office Project
Server 2003 Administrator's Guide"

Any other thoughts? What does Project Pro exactly do on the first publish?

Any comment very much appreciated.

Related to this error, we just installed Server 2003 and when publishing,
resource task assignments and project details do not show up in web access.
The project summary publishes fine and updates fine on subsequent attempts.
We have no local resources and have gone through every related knowledge base
method we could find. No luck.

Any ideas?
