spooler error 0x80004005

B

breezy2u

I am getting this error when I try to save my project after updating
tasks. I have updated both the server and the workstation to make sure
everything is up to date, I have removed all local resources and am
only using enterprise resources. I have read all the links I could find
and past posts on what could be causing the problem, but it is still
happening.

Can I get some help trouble shooting this? I am at a loss.

Breezy:

There are typically corresponding errors written to the Server Application
Event log. These are a little more verbose than than the spooler version, so
they would be helpful in diagnosing the problem. Please post them here.

It doesn't look like they have a download for it. Does anyone have a
copy of it?

Breezy:

Call Microsoft support. There is no charge for hotfixes which are almost
never available for download. This is part of Microsoft's way of tracking
how many users encounter problems.

Ok. I got the hotfix. It looks like it is for Project 2003, not project
server 2003. It also looks like I need to remove project and reinstall
since I have already installed service pack 2 and it doesn't seem to
like that.

I will try that and see what happens.

B

breezy2u

Nope. It didn't work. I uninstalled Project Professional 2003 then
reinstalled, updated to service pack 1 then applied the hotfix. I get
the same error. Should I try installing service pack 2 now? I'm at a
loss.

If you didn't run the sql query correctly it might explain what you're
seeing. Maybe it's time you call Microsoft support?

B

breezy2u

Yeah, I already tried that. It says that XP already has the right MDAC
as the server. I will try again.

I am not sure versioning is the problem, I have had everything working fine
for two weeks and then all of a sudden I get this 0x80004005 on ALL projects,
I got four, so corruption seems unlikely unless it is on the server side. I
am not using Novell, and I have tried the other solution in the MS article,
still does not work. I am very close to giving up. I will probably switch to
OpenWorkbench.
