Greetings:

Does anyone knwo what this particular spooler error really
means and how to go about addressing it?

Spooler Error: System Error (0x80004005)

Also - Does anyone know of a reference to these error
codes that explains what they are? MS is not very good at
documenting most of these messages mean ans how they can
be addressed.

Thanks,
SBelling

Hallo SBelling,
here you can find some info about the error (good way is
to look it up in Google ;)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
kbid=328249&product=prj
However, even better is to check the Event log on the
Project Server, because there is the error described (name
of component etc.). Searching by the name of the
component, which is having trouble, in the MSDN knowledge
base can give you some clues about what is causing the
Spooler Error. It really helps to anylise the situation
with keeping eye on the Event log and help og MS knowledge
base.
Hope it helps.

Check the permissions on the ViewDrop folder. This is the most common cause
for this error. Essentially, it's telling you that you don't have the
permission to take the action you're taking.

Thanks - what's the ViewDrop folder? What sort of
permissions information might I be looking for?

Thanks,

S:

Are you the installer for the system? The view drop folder is located in
your installation directory on your server following the standard path:
<drive>\program files\microsoft office project server 2003\bin\view drop\
This directory must have certain permissions set as per the installation and
configuration guide. Typically, one only needs to give read/write
permissions to the Everyone group in addition to the default settings,
however occasionally you need to do more manually.

Gary,
I thought that the Windows account Everyone was only added in the ViewDrop
folder in situations where you install Project Server in an non-trusted
environment, i.e. Novell.
