Spooler error

Hello, we are running Project Server 2003 with SP2a.

Randomly, but quite often users will get this spooler error: System Error
0x80004005, while either publishing, saving or accepting time in project pro.

Does anyone know if installing SP3 will fix this? Could there be something
the PMs are doing before they save that would cause this?

Have you made sure not to have any local resources on the project resource
sheet?

Also, what do the server application event log say? The logs should give
you more details on the errors.

Yes. Based on all the info I've read on the net, that was the first step we
covered. I am not sure what else to check for. There were no events logged to
the server other than the daily errors we usually get. Here's the evenlog
detail:

Component: PjSvrUtl
File: C:\Office\devsp\project\WebClient\source\server\pjsvrutl\PjENAgent.cpp
Line: 534
Error Number: 0x80040222
Description:
Assert Detected. The error code was also
included.

i hope that helps you answer my question :)

Hi Jen,

I suggest you to read the spooler error message on Microsoft project
client instead of from event log. See at the right bottom tray of
machine and look for spooler icon. When you click the spooler, you can
read the entire message. You will be knowing the source of the error
from here. After reading the spooler error message; file->exit to
close the spooler.

Also, could you follow the below steps:

Open project plan which is giving spooler error
View menu -> Resource Sheet view
Insert column Workgroup
Make sure Workgroup value set to None for local resources and Inactive
resources
Save and publish the plan

I hope you will not get the spooler errors.

Thanks
Chak

Jenn:

You shouldn't be getting "daily errors." If you are, you should endeavor to
correct these. If there's no pattern to the 0x80004005 spooler errors, I'd
be looking at system performance issues. Typically when something is broken
in Project Server, it's broken. When things work and then don't and then
work again, it could indicate bottlenecks where server resources are
becoming unavailable from time to time.

Thank you for your response. :)

The errors are not daily, but pretty close. After reading your comments I
did some checking and i found that we have the update frequency for OlAP set
to run every day a 4am and it usually goes all morning. this is the only time
I've seen the server resources work so hard. I wonder if i set the time to
begin earlier, say 12am or 1am, will we notice a difference.
