I trying to update my projects' status to server using MS Project

The error code is 80004005?

Any help is appreciated...

Hi,

We have installed MS Project Server 2003 and Share Point Portal Server 2003
on the same server. All users used to have integrated windows authentication
to access both Project Web Access and Project Server (via Project
Professional).
Suddenly ( I say suddenly because we did not take any related actions
before...) windows authentication started to fail. After updating users
(just switching again to windows authentication but actually no updates.)
windows authentication recovered and we are able to use Web Access again.
But now, users can not update project information via Project Professional,
we come across with a spooler error as SYSTEM ERROR (0x80004005). How can we
fix this problem?

I appreciate your help.

Yomi:

The circumstances you mention, "failing windows authentication," could cause
corruption that can cause the error you're now seeing. If this is the case,
then there's not much you can do but determine which projects are failing.
If the issue is system-wide, it could take time to diagnose what's going
wrong.

Can you create a new project with a couple tasks and successfully publish
and update it without errors? If so, then it would indicate that there are
corruption problems in the existing plans.

Hi,

Unfortunately we can not publish a newly created project. That makes me
think of a larger system problem than corruption.
What can you recommend?

Hi Gary,

Firstly I want to thank you for your kind support.

This system has been installed about 2 months ago. We had a painful setup
experience because we tried to use a remote database server. In the end, we
gave up and finally installed SQL Server on the same machine, then Share
Point Portal Server and finally Project Server 2003. We applied hot fixes
and SP1.
At first, we came across with a login problem via Project Professional. It
was because of the difference between regional settings of desktop computer
and the server. Server has "English Locale" and desktop computers have
"Turkish Locale". We obtained a registry fix from Microsoft and overcomed
this issue.
We have used this complete system without problem about 6 weeks. And this
spooler problem arised.
I think we can consider reinstallation. Actually, I am afraid that I will
come across with this spooler problem again. I do not want to reinstall
every time this problem occurs. Do you have recommendations for a more
stable installation?

Thanks in advance,

Yomi Kastro

To "recover" from authentication problem, for each user we have first
switched their authentication method to "password", then switched back to
"Windows Integrated" mode. It does not make sense but it worked. Maybe there
was a corruption and this action has resolved it...
For the spooler problem, I think I will re-install Project Server again.

Thanks,

Hi Gary,

I have found out that, a "project plan" can be created and be published on
the server without problem.
But, when I try to "Republish Assignments" or "Publish All Information" then
the spooler problem arises.

More specifically, when the tasks are not assigned to any resource, "Publish
All Information" works without problem. But if any of the tasks are assigned
to someone, then spooler arises.

I hope this specific description might give you an idea about what's going
on...

Thanks,
Yomi Kastro
