Spotlight Leopard and Entourage

Spotlight is not finding Entourage messages ever since I upgraded to
Leopard. I have confirmed that "Mail Messages" is checked in the
spotlight preferences; and I have confirmed that "Include Entourage
items in Spotlight search results" is checked in Entourage
preferences. Finally, I have clicked "Rebuild" in entourage
preferences in order to - as it states - "remove and recreate the
Entourage index that spotlight uses." All of this to no avail.

has anyone else run across this? Does anyone have suggestions for how
to fix this?

Thanks.

I ahve seen this before and it was either that the Entourage .mdimporter
was not properly installed or that the Mac needed a good reset of the
Spotlight indexing.

You shoudl be able to find a good set of tips in the FAQ:

The mdimporter file is where it is supposed to be, so I don't think
that is it. What do you mean by a "good reset of the spotlight
indexing"? When I click Rebuild, the button turns grey, and the "OK"
button at the bottom of the window is blue. Should I wait for the
rebuild button to turn blue again before clicking OK? That is the
only thing I can think of.

What if I did a fresh install of Microsoft Office? I have just been
hesitant to do that, because I don't want to lose settings or
accounts.

Well the site ahs severl tips about this near the bottom of the page:
"3) How can you force a rebuild with Spotlight?"

but first, you should check that there is actually something in
~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Microsoft/Entourage/2004

I'm not sure it would make a difference. In my experience, the problem
always laid somewhere with Spotlight indexing and it shouldn't be
affected by a fresh install...

I fixed this somehow. I did two things:
1. Fresh install, and all updates. Checked spotlight, and it was
still not working.
2. Removed the Entourage.mdimporter file from the Spotlight folder in
the Library. Restarted the machine and then added the .mdimporter
file back in the library. Checked spotlight, and it was working
again.

Not positive that step 2 fixed it, but it is fixed, so I really don't
care at this point which step was really the fix.

Thanks for your help.

Well in any case, I'm glad it fixed it for you :)
